Michael Boyer, MD, is a board certified general pediatrician who graduated from University of Washington Medical School. He received his clinical training at Seattle Children’s Hospital. In the past he served as Chairman and President for the Kitsap County Medical Society. He retired in 2015 after 38 years of practice at the Kitsap Children’s Clinic in Bremerton. Michael joined the board in 2015.
Stew Cogan, J.D., has been a full-time arbitrator and mediator of business, corporate, real estate, and other disputes for more than 27 years. For 20 years before that, he practiced law in Seattle. Stew has been named a Washington Super Lawyer for the past 25 consecutive years and has been named a Top 100 Super Lawyer in 14 of the last 16 years. He currently serves on two other boards. Among other roles, he as served as President of IFD, the King County Bar Association, the King County Bar Foundation, and the American College of Civil Trial Mediators. Stew first joined the board in April 1997, left the Board in November 2022, and rejoined the Board in October 2023.
Rosemary Zuelke Fraine MSW, now retired, spent her career working with adolescents and their families in non-profits, schools, and government settings. Most recently employed at King County Juvenile Court, she was actively involved in providing evidence-based programming and services to court involved youth and their families. Rosemary has served on boards at both the University of Washington and Seattle University and has been a practicum supervisor and guest lecturer for those social work departments. Rosemary enjoys volunteering with community youth programs and schools. Rosemary joined the Board in 2022.
Hower Kwon, MD, is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist practicing in Bellevue. He is an associate clinical professor at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine, and is an attending psychiatrist at the Seattle Children's Autism Center. He serves on the Ethics Committee of the Washington State Psychiatric Association. He received his clinical training at UCLA, and from 1999 - 2004 was on the clinical and research staff at the Stanford University Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Hower
joined the board in 2007.
Sally Nafziger, now retired, has spent 20 years serving the non-profit world both personally and professionally. Most recently, she was Director of Development for the American Diabetes Association, and for the previous 11 years worked for Presbyterian Retirement Communities Northwest as the VP of Sales and Marketing and Director of Corporate Development. Sally has donated her time to various organizations including Children’s Hospital, Leading Age, and Northwest Development Officers Association. Sally joined the board in 2000.
Rod Pierson, now retired, is a former Chief Financial Officer of Safeco and has also worked in accounting and finance roles at other organizations. He has an undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of Washington. Rod currently serves on the Board of Directors of Childhaven. He has also served on the boards of several other organizations including Washington Special Olympics, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and Eastside Catholic High School. Rod joined the board
in 2022.
Jordan Ross, is currently a product manager on Google’s Ads Privacy and Safety team and was previously a product manager at Microsoft. He has volunteered with nonprofits to develop technology strategies aimed at protecting vulnerable youth in abusive and conflict prone environments. He holds an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University. While at Purdue, Jordan led the university's global diversity initiative and secured health insurance benefits for trans students. Jordan is a scholar with the Aspen Institute where he has advised federal and state agencies on technology policy to better serve communities. Jordan joined the board
in 2022.
John Stewart, Ph.D., CFA, is Vice President, Chief Risk Officer at BECU. John has been a banker for over 15 years and is also a graduate school instructor at UW. He was previously Chief Risk Officer at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle and has held leadership roles at Moss Adams, Washington Mutual, and Oliver Wyman, LLC. He has a Ph.D. in engineering from Princeton and undergraduate degrees in philosophy and engineering from the University of Minnesota. John and Joanna live in Bellevue with their two school-age children. John joined the board in 2016.
Susan Waild, MSW, recently retired. Before retirement, Susan was the Probation Manager for King County Juvenile Court. She formerly served on various committees such as the statewide Juvenile Probation Managers Association, many statewide groups associated with juvenile programming and legislation, and the King County Systems Integration Project. She is a past board member of the Washington Children’s Alliance and Lutheran Social Services. Susan joined the board in 1996.
Sharon Wheat, MA, retired after many years teaching at Tacoma Public Schools. She has been a professor in the Department of Education of City University and has been a volunteer member of the Community Accountability Board at King County Superior Court. Sharon joined the board in 2005.
